Chameleon kext options
« on: December 27, 2009, 03:44:32 AM »
I'd like to post an addendum to the thread about the documentation, but since I don't have the answer, I'm asking here - once I get it, I'll add a reply to the doc thread and request a moderator to delete this post....

When Chameleon is loading it's kexts,  Does it only use files(technically folders correct?) that end in .kext?

Also, does it only look at the /extra/extensions folder? If there was a folder inside of extensions, say /extra/extensions/disabled - would it traverse down and find those kexts or would that be sufficient to 'hide' the kext and keep it from loading.

Is there any other generally accepted way of disabling a kext?

Thanks in advance,
Jack

What are you really trying to achieve Jack?

You sound confused but want to post an addendum?
Stop bitching, start coding or documenting or both..

No. If you want to disable a kext, move it out of /Extra/Extensions (remember to rebuild your Extensions.mkext as well) and keep it in a backup folder somewhere.

You can easily test your theory (/Extra/Extensions/Disabled) just move your audio or LAN kext there, and if you don't have audio or LAN when rebooting then it works.
