Keep getting error accessing forum
« on: February 10, 2010, 07:10:57 AM »
I am sorry but I don't know where else to post this.

I seems to be getting a lot of problem connecting to this forum.

Keep getting:
Code: [Select]
Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!
Your ban is not set to expire.

I am not even logged in. At one time, I tried clearing all my history and cache in firefox and it works. But now using my OSX firefox, it doesn't want to connect even after clearing all cache and history.

Any idea what is the problem?

Hi abubin

Apologies for this and will I will get this issue looked in to.
I can't deal with it directly and have to do it via the forum's administrators.

Thanks for your patience.

Regards

Hi abubin

You're not banned and you never were.

There's some hiccups for users browsing via RSS without being logged in (most rss apps have flakey cookie support)
Also if you're on a dynamic IP connection (adsl/cable) some of the IPs that your ISP relocates might get caught by our spam filters (depending on how often your ISP refreshes the IP pool). Please make a note of the IPs that you can log in with no problems and PM me.

Sorry about this.

Thanks for the follow-up thiago, I still have your PM.

Sounds funny that IE will get you through while FF won't. Preferences aside, there's lots of complains about the last release(s) of FF vs. forum functionality. Users are better off filing bugs/complains at the FF forum/bug trackers to let the Mozilla devs know about this.

A few more thoughts:

Members who can log in at one time/location but not at another, means blacklisted IPs at some point along the way. We're getting checks from all major spam fighters, so if for example one of the IPs that your ISP may allocate to you at a certain time is blacklisted by BotScout, we cannot do much about it.

Most proxies are also blacklisted since it's what lots of spammers are using to fill the internets with junk.

Another good practice -this forum aside- for everyone is to keep an eye on the spam filter/folder of his email application.  Sending/forwarding spam to someone else will most likely cause your email address to be blacklisted by one of the anti-spam service/organizations.

Hot Update:  A few members use their e-mail as their username  :o People get real, this is a recipe for disaster!. All such usernames here will be altered.

Here is more details from my side:

I tested using 3 computers.

1) Work computer running firefox 3.6. It was having problems accessing until I clears all my cache and cookies. Now it is working fine as I am posting using this computer. Windows XP.

2) Home computer running firefox 3.6. Never had problem with this. Works fine. Windows 7 x64.

3) Netbook tested at work and at home. firefox 3.6 also but keep getting that banned message. Tried using safari 4 and it works!! OSX 10.6.2.

Any information you guys require, just ask.

Thanks.

Thanks for the update abubin,

Clearing caches+cookies from time to time is troubleshooting step  #1 :)

You both visit from countries/IPs abused by spambots, so please keep an eye on your IP . Also since you both prefer FF, do the Mozilla Devs a favour and let them know about this, help 'em fix it.
