I have been playing with the vertical orientation option of devices in the theme.plist and come up with this theme. I think it makes a change to list the devices this way and you can scroll the device list by pressing the up and down arrows on your keyboard, with enter to boot the highlighted device.

Note: Using the vertical option renders the GUI's menu useless so although pressing the left arrow on the keyboard will display the menu, you will not be able to move up and down the menu options. If you need to boot the highlighted device with say the verbose mode then you will have to type the relevant command (-v) where you will see it displayed on the screen, then press enter.

I have made it on a 1680x1050 resolution display, though there is no background image so it should be easy to resize and if you want to do that then you should only need to change the size of the 10 x images with filenames starting with device_*.png. Then of course, the resolutions in the theme.plist to match your own display.

I have included a thumb.png for Sonotone's Lizard App.

Enjoy :)

Very well executed design =)

Edit: How did you manage to hide the text within the device icons? i.e. "Object Identification" & "Press Enter to boot" ;-)

Also, Do you know if there's a higher res of the chameleon logo than what's included in the Cham releases? I too would like to use it for a theme heh.

Hi Enzo

I see you have spotted my experiment with transparency etc.. :)
It was playing around with ideas to see what I could do next with themes and I found that doing this could lead to some interesting themes in the future. Here's how I did it in pictorial form as it's easier to show with an exploded diagram.... hope this makes sense..

And for a higher res Chameleon logo, you can find it in the source on the SVN. There's a TIFF file named background.tiff and you can get it from: http://forge.voodooprojects.org/p/chameleon/source/tree/HEAD/trunk/package/Resources

first off, thank you for this theme

i am having some issue with it tho. in the previews, 'device_*' images which have text on the left and right sides (Object Identification: ~ Press Enter to boot) are not at all visible when the option is not selected, yet i can see the text faintly behind, on every option (osx, windows partitions).

is there any way the text to make it not visible at all when the partition is not selected, like your examples have shown

also, is there a possibility to get the 'device_*' images without any text on them?

thank you.

Hi spalek83

Thanks for the report that you are liking this theme, but to be honest I too can faintly see the test in the devices in Chameleon's GUI.  Unfortunately though, I have no time at the moment to make the changes you are requesting but if it's any use, I have attached the photoshop PSD and font file used to create the devices.

I hope they are some use to you?

when i go into device_hfsplus.png and set what is currently there to a top layer, and create a completely black layer below, I see the text. this must be the issue, it has the light text without anything else's help

seems the process of saving a multilayer photoshop file as a .png eliminates the layers, and forces the text to be burnt into the overall image, as saving it directly as png, importing it into photoshop, and adding a black layer below always results in the faint text.

in case anyone is interested, i made a few edited images in the journey to figure this out. the device_selection.png(no more checkmark), as well hfsplus, ntfs and ext3 were edited(no more text faint or otherwise inside the selections, drive names are still there), also the boot.png was swapped from another one in this forum, ty btw).
