Any idea's on what would make my laptop not completly power down?

Everything is working very well, but for some reason when I powerdown my inspiron 1520 running osx10.6, it doesn't completly shut down, everything powers off except for the blutooth light and a few other things.  I end up needing to hold down the power button for 5 seconds everytime I shutdown or restart.  Any idea's on what to try?
