The values on smbios.plist patch what's shown on System Profiler and afaik they are only cosmetics.
Your best bet at this point is a patched kernel.

On smbios.plist, i'd say remove it for now and later add only the needed values. And be careful with cross posting... to answer your question on IM, values on smbios.plist ALWAYS override the default ones ;)

Thanks for the info, ha ha you saw my IM topic, thats related yes but different software and hopefully gives different insight. I'm still a noob and did not know I should have my system set to systemtype 2 in boot.plist, so I'm glad I know that.

I have for force 32bit because my zydas usb wifi device is 32bit only driver. I also had a few other issues I wanted to iron out.

As for the smbios.plist. Its all superficial uh.. Damn then just to clarify a few things. Ive got a few ideas to solve this that I am wondering if they will work or not, besides using a different kernel.

1.  Use a editable SMbios file for fsb fix. Like this http://osx86.net/f36/anv-applesmbios-38-t3587/
ANV 38 is from 10.5.7... Be best if I could find one for 10.6.2 but I think thats the newest out.

2. Try one of the old solutions.. Smbiosresolver or smbiosenabler or smbiosefi..

3. Maybe find a DSDT fix for this? Is that possible

I've read this: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,1146.msg4938.html#msg4938

So I know the first 2 are outdated solution and if all they ever did was superficial fixes its pointless and my only real solution is the kernel or a locked 10.6.2 smbios.kext like I used to have in 10.5.4.

Why all those smbios fixes would be superficial eludes me, ANV and the rest cant be just superficial...

I'm in the same boat, Intel Core2Duo T7250 with 2000/200. It detects the 183Mhz FSB instead of 200Mhz.  ??? Hardcoded SMBIOS from Superhai worked nicely in Leopard.

Try with that kext and Kernel Option FSB=200?

Riws.. Can you give me details of where you got those cpumhzfix.kext. I have googled and found nothing. Does this specificly address fsb of 183 and force 200mhz? What else does it do?

Its AppleSMBIOSEFI without smbios part, just the CPU part, it gives you the Kernel Option "FSB=xxx" with upper case

Does it work for you?

So I just install it to extensions and added FSB=200 and it works? Does it work with 32bit 10.6.2?

What forum did you get this from? I'd like to read more about this..

Thanks

It should work with SL and 32bit, cause its compiled for 32bit SL, I use it with 10.6.4 and 32bit. You wont find anything about it.

00diabolic,

i don't have nothing new to add to your search!
Now i got to stop following topics and focus on my stuff, again.
Try the kernel, i'm sure it will work. Then take your time to find another solution...

Stay safe

Thank you so Much Azimutz.. You have been a lot of help even when I was not no so clear on my problem.

One last question. Are all of the smbios fixes superficial mostly? Or is just smbios.plist for chameleon superficial? Or are you not sure about that.

Thanks

I've given it a try and at first it caused a kernel panic. Rebooted again and it did nothing the second time. I know that a true fix for my problem either lies in a real smbios fix or in the bootloader. Nothing else can help my issue. Thanks for trying..

Well, after all this discussion, the conclusion is this:
  • Your issue is in the BIOS.
  • Maybe it can be fixed in the booter by hardcoding it to what your FSB is supposed to be.

Now, if someone cares to do it for you, that would be nice of him, but don't expect much because your issue is rare.
