And this is just the start?
« on: June 28, 2010, 02:24:46 AM »
So lets start off by saying, i love the hole idea of mac on a pc?
And im getting a little bored of what windows has to offer.

So i started searching the net on how to "install mac on a pc"
I found and started to read as many things as i could before i would even try to install it
But it seems after all the reading im even more confused

It was said that iAtkos 1.0i was a one step install? put it on dvd and away you go?
Im sure there last update was 2009? is this sh*t out of date?

After reading about other MAC installer packages i find you guys!
And your last update is 2009 as well? is this better then iatkos?
Easy to install?

And one other thing!
I have a few hard drives. do i have to install it on the same one as i have vista on?
Would this save me a lot of hard work

And thank you for taking your time to read this.
Good Luck

First stop. HCL: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.2

Figure out if anyone has OSX running on your hardware & what version. This will save you so much time its not even funny.

Second stop find a guide: Google for your motherboard/laptop with osx install guide.

Follow that guide and you will learn as you go. This forum is for a bootloader which is just one part of the puzzle. Its the biggest but still just a part. If you have incompatible hardware you wont get this far anyway or rather there is no point.

Iatkos is a distro of sorts.. another is snow universal.. Its like the many flavors of linux. Its one of the best and is made by a guy named uphuck. They have a forum also and you maybe able to get help there for iatkos. Also try insanelymac as a good getting started place. 10.6 of OSX was released in 09 so a lot of releases last updated around the time SL was made, but there are newer ones but first see what works in the HCL.

Good Luck

Thanks but it seems like the sites down?
And i have a custom PC. . . .
So its a little harder to see if all my hardware will work
But i have found some systems using my GFX Card, CPU,  AUDIO. Wouldn't this be the main modules of the system?

Anyway here "was" my plan explain to me where im going to fail! :P

Download something like iaktos
Burn it to DVD at slow speed
Put the disk in to the drive
Mac will boot and let me pick a install location
(X:Hard Drive 1)(X:Hard Drive 2)
I pick hard drive 2
everything works to plan?
of course after installing the needed drivers?

We cannot support hacked DVD installs here. Retail only.

If you want to go the Hacked distro route, the InsanelyMac forums is a better place to post and research.

I'd gladly walk you through, if you buy a retail DVD.

Before you get started though, post up your motherboard, graphics card, cpu, and any other components you've installed in your PC.
