Disk Identifier change after reboot!
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:50:43 PM »
Hi, I'm trying to hide some partitions in chameleon boot list... the drives i want to hide are
disk0s2, disk1s5, disk2s2
so i added....
<key>Hide Partition</key>
<string>hd(0,2) hd(1,5) hd(2,2)</string>
into com.apple.boot.plist file. I think its correct, isn't it??? but after reboot i could see those drives in boot list so i thought i did something wrong, so to fix that i booted into SL and lunched terminal and typed diskutil list and then what i find out is that all my drives disk identifier values are changed
disk0s2 become disk1s2
disk1s5 become disk0s5
disk2s2 stayed same maybe because its an external hard drive..!?
so i modified my com.apple.boo.plist again with new values.... <string>hd(1,2) hd(0,5) hd(2,2)</string> but still i could see those partitions in boot list... so again i launched terminal and typed diskutil list and found that disk identifier is changed again to its old values...! i don't know whats wrong??
PS: i am using three drives
1x160GB(MBR) for windows 7 and snow leopard
1x1TB(MBR) DATA
1x160GB external(GUID) EFI partition for chameleon and FAT32 for DATA and stuff..!
sorry for my bad English and thanks in advance

Chameleon uses BIOS drive order, press the TAB key while in the booter to know the actual hd(x,y) assigments, then edit boot.plist according to that. Later we can use volume serial numbers for FAT16/FAT32/NTFS partitions and volume UUIDs for HFS/Ext2/3/4.
