IS this a dual boot problems or just a windows problem??
« on: August 10, 2010, 05:05:47 AM »
I have SL 10.6.4 running flawless with a dual boot of win7 ultimate. Now its happened twice that my win7 install has broken down the same way.

Both times, windows loads to the welcome screen and then instead of going to desktop it goes to a black screen with cursor on it that I can move around, but screen stay black for a while. After 10-15 minutes windows will finally move forward. The last time it happened, i hadn't installed any new apps or drivers in windows. I was using my mac OSX when I shutdown the computer froze. Then I proceded to do a hard shutdown and rebooted to win7 and go the black screen after the windows welcome screen. Anyone know if this is a problem realated to having these two OS's on the same HD or is it related to win 7 only? Please advice. Thanks

You should run chkdsk /R on your NTFS partition.

How to...

You should run chkdsk /R on your NTFS partition.

Did that and no luck. Win 7 still hangs on a black screen with a moveable mouse cursor for 10 minutes after the welcome screen and before the desktop loads up. Any other suggestion. Main thing is how can I prevent this. This will the be third time I'll be reinstalling win7.
