Chamaleon RC4 only shows me MacOSX
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:56:50 AM »
Hi guys,

I have windows 7 installed, and when i installed Mac, deleted the windows bootloader, and now I can only boot windows 7 through superdisgrub, I thought chamaleon 0.4 bootloader would choose what OS boot, but only shows me the Mac OS, someone knows if can i edit chamaleon 0.4 bootloader to recognize windows partition to boot?

Thanks.

I have no idea what you did, but from the sounds of it, you should not have uninstalled the windows bootloader. My Chameleon works fine with the Windows bootloader. You just have to make your OS X Partition the active partition.

Hi, thanks for your help Zane.

I have one HDD on my laptop, the first partition is for OS X, the second one is for W7, the third partitions is for Linux, and the fourth is an extended partition for data in NTFS.

When i installed OS X, the bootloader only shows me to start OS X and the extended partition, but it havent any boot archive.

If I start with the installation iaktos DVD, it shows me the W7 partition as MSDos-FAT, but its really NFTS partition as show me G-parted live CD and partition manager if I start W7 with superdiskgrub.

Before to try OS X, i had XP, W7 and ubuntu 10.04 and I always install ubuntu the last, and the boot of ubuntu shows me all the OS's. How should be the installation of the SO's? OS X the last?

I already have OS X partition active, but it dont recognize the W7 partition.

I think that the problem is chamaleon bootloader it installs on partition MAC journaled, not to MBR.

Thanks again.

Well, i have tried to install Chamaleon to MBR, and now i cant boot W7 with supergrubdisk, i will format all the disk and start again to install ubuntu, os x and w7, can someone tell me which OS will be the first, second and third one to can use chamaleon to boot any of three OS? Or any order of the partitions that should be better? I have searching about on google and i cant see any about.

Thanks again.

P.D: Sorry for my english, is very bad.

Your english isn't that bad. Nothing to be sorry about.

You didn't mention it wasn't on the MBR. Probably thats why. Anyway. Install like this. Windows then OS X then Ubuntu.

Once you install OS X, Install Chameleon into the MBR. After that, install Ubuntu and WRITE OVER the MBR. Then install grub into Ubuntu's Partition. Boot back into OS X and install Chameleon.

One of my replies on the other threads. Can be applied to what you're doing now. So i'll just quote.

That's one of the tutorials I followed. But when I get to the part to make active my Mac partition, I get that the partition number is not valid, or something like that...

There we go. I replied to another guy in a thread first. so i'll just copy and paste here.

I said i did elaborate further. What i was gonna elaborate was to use StartUpManager in Ubuntu to set boot time Timeout to 0.

If you need more information, its here

If you are unable to make your partition active. I suggest using Gparted which can be found here and set the boot flag to your hfs+ partition OR use Diskpart in windows to do it. If i'm not wrong, to set your partition active in windows the commands are.

List disk <- listing your disks
Select disk x <- Change x to the number of your main HDD
List partition <- listing your partitions in your main HDD
Select partition x <- Change x to the partition number of your OS X.
make active <- making it active.

EDIT: Oh. and about the guide in chameleon, do use the ./fdisk440 included with the chameleon. It prevents rewriting over any Windows signature that is REQUIRED to boot windows.

Perfect Zane, now i can start W7, OS X and ubuntu with chamaleon.

You are the boss!!!! ;)

But, when it boot, starts on MAC OS X as default if you dont touch the keyboard, and then if you press any key, it shows the OS menu with all the OS's..Is it possible to put chamaleon on this menu as default?

Thanks so much.

Regards.

You need to make one if you don't have one. And if you're using Chameleon to boot, i don't see how you would get the previous issue about OS X Autobooting unless you have a com.apple.boot.plist located in /Extras . (Someone correct me if i'm wrong)

It's /Extra, not /Extras  :)

I havent any file as com.apple.boot.plist in /Extra, but when i removed the timeout key and string in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist there isnt autobooting.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand, do you mean to ask if it's possible to install Chameleon without OS X?

There's a thread about installing/preparing  Chameleon without access to a Mac or Hackintosh somewhere on here.
