Ext4 FS recognition
« on: September 15, 2010, 03:36:01 AM »
It would be great for Chameleon to maintain its compatibility with linux.  Since Ext4 fs has become the widely accepted standard among linux distros, and linux is one of Chameleon's closest relatives- we should regain booting compatibility!

Just curious if anyone is working on this, how much work it would take...?

Thanks!  You guys are doing an amazing job...

The fuse-ext2 project lets you mount your ext4 filesystems.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuse-ext2/
I'm not sure why the documentation fails to mention ext4 support.
It does just mount the filesystems read-only, but same goes for ntfs-3g on the mac.
Been using both for a while now without problems.

He's talking about booting Linux from ext4, not about the support of the mentioned FS in Mac OS X.

AuralArch, I don't see that coming, Chameleon can chainload other boot loaders though.

Ya, I thought he might have only been interested in booting, after I noticed what section the post was in.

grub can boot ext4 and chainload chameleon as well; that's what I use.  grub2 can directly boot both.
