Additionally, the maximum volume under VoodooHDA is much lower than with the older AppleAzaliaAudio driver.

Same effect here.

After a sleep, the fact to move the finger on the trackpad give a proper sound output!!!!!!
So, after a sleep, do not stop to move the finger on the trackpad and you will have decent sound.
Maybe this apply also to other computer. I have also the voodooPS2 driver installed.
It seems that there is some sort of interaction between sound and ps2 drivers !!!!

Maybe we should open a new thread about this bug to see if it is the same on other computers than the nc10/ALC272.

Hmm - sounds like an interrupt-related issue.  Moving your finger on the track-pad (or, presumably, typing on the keyboard) generates frequent PS2 interrupts, which also allow the audio sub-system to process as needed.  Without this, audio events aren't processed in a timely manner and so sound is choppy and of poor quality.

Are (some) interrupts disabled on sleep, and the VoodooHDA driver is failing to re-enable them (correctly) on resume?
