EVGA X58
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:18:49 PM »
EVGA X58 motherboards can't load AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement without getting a type 13 panic at boot, unless a bios version older than version 44 is available and it is used. For example, the EVGA X58 SLI can work with bios version SZ2Z, which is just before 44. I have the EVGA X58 SLI3, for which only bios versions 76 and 77 are available. I have tried dozens of C2RC5 releases, the last RC4 release, and I get the panic each time. I have verified that my DSDT is correct, my bios has hpet64/ahci/s3/c1e/turbo/speedstep, AppleHPET/RTC/LPC all load, and I have tried every combination of DropSSDT/GenerateC/PStates and modded/stock/no ssdt.aml. So have all other owners of EVGA X58 boards that I have been able to track down. I don't know enough about debugging kernel panics to figure what the issue is.

Also, less important to me right now, but all versions of RC5 that I have tried, recognize my ram as 1066, when it's 1600. I have it set to 1600 in the bios, and it's labeled as 1600 cl7. It does detect the vendor and stuff correctly.

Everything else looks good.

Thanks!

/EDIT - redundant quote deleted, please trim your quotes, thanks.

Not sure about your board but about the memory detection issue, that's a known issue. It's been reported and a bugfix has been developed for it.
