Chameleon bootscreen resolution.
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:35:14 PM »
Hello!

Chameleon doesn't use 1600x1200 resolution which is presented in boot.plist.
On boot screen I can see available screen resolutions and 1280x960 is the biggest one there (VESA 3.0).
So the questuion is: is there any way to use 1600x1200 in Chameleon while booting? (not in mac os, everything is ok there).

Thanks for any help!

If your video card doesn't report the VESA mode you want as available, then it isn't. At least not to Chameleon.
Which resolutions are available when an OS is running with video drivers loaded is another matter entirely.

I've seen posts from someone who got more VESA modes by updating or crossflashing the BIOS on their video card.
Visit mvktech.net and see if you can find a newer BIOS version.

Someone else reported once that more VESA modes became available when using the display output that's closest to the motherboard.
If that's a VGA port on your card and you're using DVI right now, try the VGA port with a converter and see if your native resolution becomes available.

There was also a thread going on somewhere about patching the video card BIOS to enable more VESA modes.

I sincerely apologize if this is not the right place to post this but i have a few questions.

1. What is VESA Modes? Are VESA Modes like resolutions? (Did my googling. Didn't come up much for starters.)

2. I assume that VESA Modes are like what kind of resolution the graphic card supports but the question is even if you could use higher resolutions, what if your LCD Screen doesn't support higher resolutions. Wouldn't that spoil the LCD?

Most LCDs will turn themselves off when asked to switch to a mode they don't support.
