Can't get RC5 to Hide Partitions
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:10:08 PM »
Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help me out?

I've got chameleon working perfectly except for one thing, I can't make it hide one of my non-bootable partitions.

I'm running version 2.0 RC5 and the partition I want to hide is definitely partition 1 on hard drive 0.

My com.apple.Boot.plist is as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
   <key>Kernel</key>
   <string>mach_kernel</string>
   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>arch=i386</string>
   <key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
        <key>Hide Partition</key>
        <string>hd(0,1)</string>
        <key>Instant Menu</key>
        <string>yes</string>
   <key>Timeout</key>
   <string>2</string>
   <key>Legacy Logo</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
   <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
   <string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Any idea where I'm going wrong?

That's actually sorted it out, thank you very much!

No idea why though, disk utility has hd 1 listed as a completely different drive. One of the many quirks of a hackintosh I guess!  :P

Gambol,
what really happens is that Chameleon sees devices in a different way than the system; for the booter, the device were it is installed is always disk0. When it comes to getting partition identifiers to use on boot.plist the best you can do is, when at the boot prompt, use Tab key to change to TextMode and check there what the booter is seeing.
The system can also do the same, showing the drive were it is installed as the first; that's why one should always check disk identifiers before doing something on Terminal and don't trust things will always be in their place!... yep, quirks :)

Stay safe...

Just in case you don't know how to check.

1. Open up Terminal

2. Type sudo -s and type your password

3. Type diskutil list
