Chameleon for Ps3?
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:15:23 AM »
I have been playing around with my Ps3 recently and with OtherOs++ debian, ubuntu, and freeBSD are all able to run.  I would like to get OsX running.  I understand that it will have to be 10.5 or below. I have owned Macs for a while so I have the install discs.  Was hoping to get a bit of advice. I assume I can make Chameleon on my debian install on my ps3 for a native ppc64 build, I also have a ppc G4 that can do the work.  then basically follow the instructions to install chameleon.
Am I wasting my time or could this work.  There has been recent progressions in the RSX driver need for the video card.  I just want to start looking into the possible tools to use to boot OsX.

thanks for your time. :)

Before proceeding you should investigate if you can compile a PPC version of DSMOS, AppleDecrypt.kext or fakesmc.kext. OS X won't run on non-Apple hardware without one of these. And what about the kernel? I doubt that the Leopard or Tiger kernel will work on the Cell CPU as-is.

Keep in mind that everything that goes on in the Hackintosh scene is aimed at the x86 platform. Apple's transition to Intel CPUs is what made all of this possible in the first place.

thanks for your response.

My first order of business with getting OsX installed would be to get darwin9 installed first.  Seeing that darwin is open source I was going to either svn it from apple or use http://www.puredarwin.org/   Getting puredarwin installed would allow me to get Macports and XFCE, enlightenment..... or whatever Macports has available.  When puredarwin is installed it too asks you if you would like to boot from a OsX disc, it references Chameleon in it docs about bootloaders.  If any are interested in checking the the ps3/OtherOs++ capabilities please see http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page or http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/Main_Page

The petitboot that is posted to get linux installed does not have HFS+ capabilities.  I have gotten openwrt and made a petitboot that does mount HFS+ and should boot EFI and supports openfirmware/yaboot.  Openwrt also lists support for POWER4 and Mac, IBMblade, Cell which is a powerpc arch.

these are some of my ideas and I just need to get to testing all the different things listed above.

Thanks for your time.  :)
