[Theme] iCham2 - It's Magical =P
« on: January 18, 2011, 04:44:43 AM »

Click for Full Preview.  ;) Now on to the fine print... =P

I always thought iOS lent itself nicely to a simple Cham theme, just needed a frame, and that's where the iPad came in. Came together easily after that, though the hardest part (By Far) is having to adjust for the various bugs/quirks Chameleon has. Once finished, I couldn't help but mimic typical Apple advertising.  ;D

Technical Notes

-Icons are adjusted to look as close to the mockup as possible in the options screen. Some effects look exaggerated because of this in the first/countdown screen.

-By Default, the theme uses an invisble/hidden font_small, so you will not be able to see your partition names. If you need the functionality, there is an alternate font_small included. The obligatory Ubuntu alternate is also included.

-The PSD was simplified so it can be easier to use, hopefully it's all you'd need. It's easy to drop in a wallpaper in the appropriate folder.

Thank you.

Sorry if this is an obvious question but basically to make this theme work, all i have to do is open the PSD and resize it to my screen resolution and save and replace the 1920x1200 with mine right?

That would work... heh but I think I can be of help here...

The iPad in the image is sized to fit down to 1280x1024. What res are you running? Easiest way would be to crop the image around the iPad, leaving the iPad alone, unless you res is smaller than 1280x1024. I think I'll whip up a smaller background here and update this post.

Edit:
Try this background.png sized for 1680x1050. http://cl.ly/44iu
I believe this displayed correctly on 1280x1024 though it may need a reposition of the devices in the theme.plist. device_pos_y is currently @ 70% in the plist. You'll want < 70 to raise the devices, or > 70 to lower them. LMK if this works, thanks.

Thanks mate. My resolution size is stucked on crappy values of 1366 x 768 which is default for almost all laptops now.
Will try it when i get the chance! Well done on the theme. :) Great to see people still working on themes!

Yeah, 1366x768 is pretty common in laptops these days. I am weighing two options for anything "under" 1280x1024. I can resize everything down, just as anyone would do with the supplied theme folder, though I would do it with the resource files which would yield better results.

The second option is one that I'd like to implement for netbook's res of 1024x600. My idea for this small res is to cut the iPad and background out, and have the entire 1024x600 be only the screen within the iPad (cropped a tad).

Feedback is welcomed, thanks.

Thanks guys =).

Edit:
If anyone running 1680x1050 can help me out in letting me know if the 1680x1050 background image (found here:http://cl.ly/44iu) works fine with the rest of the theme, i.e. the devices are properly aligned in the second screen it would be of great help, and I can then provide a full theme link download for that specific res. Thank you.

Hi Enzo

Here's a screenshot from loading the theme at 1680x1050.
I made it using VMWare Fusion - you should try it.. it's great for testing themes and I know you'll benefit from it (link)

ah, Thanks Blackosx! Very helpful indeed, got it working already =). Will update OP with a 1680x1050 version packaged theme.

Edit:

Here is a packaged 1680x1050 Theme Folder: http://cl.ly/46qv. I've tested it, and it is optimized for the res!
I just realized I'd probably have to include a PSD for every res =P.

No problem and I'm happy to help you out.

As for the need to supply a PSD for each background, that's a step further than I ever went. I understand why you want to do so, as you want things to fit pixel perfect and sometimes leaving the user to adjusting a value, in this instance device_pos_x, might still not get the device icon placed correctly? in which case moving the background around is the answer.

Though you are creating more work for yourself so how about just supplying three high-res PSD background images for the main screen ratios and let the user resize them as they require? Also I guess worth considering is not all users are going to be able to load up a PSD file to make changes or some won't even want to.

Best of luck in your choice, but keep up the lovely work Enzo :)

So I had to reinstall chameleon rc5 and when I did, I chose this theme. I resized it following the guide. It seems to work just fine except for one thing. The custom boot image doesn't appear when I get past the bootloader. Why is this?

This sounds like an issue outside of the theme itself, do you see the classic grey apple logo?

btw, what res are you running?
