[Theme] Blackosx_Big_Screen
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:47:34 AM »
Of my previous themes, I noticed that my Chameleon Tribute and BIG themes have been popular. So I decided to do a new theme combining the two ideas and here it is.

As the device icons are large, I have created two setups, one for displaying 2 x devices and another for displaying 3 x devices (See images for help in choosing which one suits you best). If you have more then you can scroll left or right to display them.

I use 1680x1050 but my setup only allows Chameleon to see 1280x1024, so my files are squashed to 1280x1024 and the booter stretches them to fit, but for the first time I have created replacement icons for different screen sizes, and will uploaded them separately.

EDIT
There are now proper 1680x1050 unsquashed device logos here http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,370.0.html

Enjoy :)

EDIT 5th August 2009

I have now changed the NTFS device with the default desktop from the latest Windows 7. There are two, one for 2 devices and one for 3 devices. They're for 1680x1050.

EDIT 1st September 2009

I have now added a replacement HFS+ device image with the default Snow Leopard desktop. There are two, one for 2 devices and one for 3 devices. They're for 1920x1080.

UPDATE 12th May 2011
There's a new 2011 refresh version of this theme

well done... once again:)

A few minor flaws in the Windows-Picture (imho ;)), the icons in the upper left corner, the cmd and the lettering from the RC disturbs a little bit, same at the Mac-Picture, but just fine idea again

Thanks for the comments Luvmac, eyvind & Revan. As for the images of the desktops, now they're big enough to read, there might always be something on them not to everyones liking or personal taste  :P (But I see what you mean)  :D

Nice theme!! Thank you!

I am pretty good at graphics and I would love to do some themes of my own. However, I would love to know the following:

My screen is 1920x 1200. Can I create a theme at this size? Will the bootloader display it?

Is there a guide that shows you how to begin doing your own theme? I guess I could reverse engioneer designs out there, but a good starting point would be great.

Thanks,

Hernando

Hi hernandito

Thanks, glad you like it.
Good to hear you want to create some themes, the more available for people to choose from, the better.

Will 1920x1200 display? I don't know, it's all down to your specific hardware and what resolutions are listed when you choose the 'Video Modes' option from the bootloader men, but I don't see why not.

With regards to a guide, no there isn't one. So unfortunately for now you will have to, as you say, 'reverse engineer' other themes to work it out, like we all did. But I will look at creating a post with some pointers when I get some time maybe later on today?  I have now made one, see the Creating Themes Guide post.

I look forward to seeing anything you produce. :)

Hi super480

1. For speed, you can do this yourself if you want to? What you need to do is resize the device icons, as shown in my Resizing Themes post, to make them smaller (by a percentage that you will need to work out). Then edit the theme.plist and change devices_max_visible to 4.

2. Unfortunately this version of Chameleon can't distinguish between different partitions, other than the partition format. And in this case XP & Win7 are both NTFS. So no, sorry.  But maybe the next release with have another mechanism in place for identifying different partitions?

Hope this helps you :)

Why don't you have a try resizing it for yourself? It will help you in the long run when you want other themes to fit at your resolution. I have already supplied graphics for this theme at 1024x768 and made a guide for resizing. You will only need to reduce them down by 62.5%. If you have any problems with fonts fitting then cizko's font maker will let you generate anything you need.  ;)
