Boot Variable
« on: August 03, 2009, 01:51:32 PM »
In system log:
Aug  3 20:51:08 abc-defs-mac-pro [0x0-0xe00e].com.apple.systempreferences[126]: Can't access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable"

This was what you get if you put a retail in DVD & click "Install OS X"
It obviously sets this variable (the boot device?) and asks you to reboot.

Can we add one to select boot device (like the current menu) to just boot from the DVD on the second stage.

Would also love a Unix ISO to install chameleon on a fresh partition and then set the above variable to DVD on reboot. (probably a small separate Fat32 partition so windows, dos, OSX or unix can add/subtract kexts without a working OS X system)

In the options list, add all the kexts necessary in the extras folder....makes installing retail on a bare system easy as   :)

This small partition & variable could be used to run a cutdown Unix to do lots of things between boots (retail that needs a reboot could have its kexts adjusted?)

boot sequence:
Normal
1st stage boot .. test variable ....  2nd stage HD OSX
Install retail
1st stage boot .... test variable ... 2nd stage DVD
First reboot after chameleon install or when updating package etc
1st stage boot ..... test variable ... 2nd stage cutdown unix.. run scripts or manually do adjustments.. reset variable... then reboot 1st Stage 2ns stage HD OSX

Not after much am I?  :)
