Don't suppose you backed up contents of your old /EFI/ Partition did you?

If you're confident you had a generic (uncustomised) set of files in your RC2 install, you could try a MANUAL re-install of RC2 (look here in the forums/FAQ for dual boot guide after you get your RC2 re-installed.)

I tend to think a re-install of RC2 won't fix your problem (especially if you are using the package installer) though.

What most likely happened is placing RC3 on top of your RC2 install, you probably over-wrote your boot options file.  Don't worry though, all isn't lost.  It may be a bit of a hassle to get it back working properly.

The good news is: its problably not RC3 which, more than likely, works fine on your machine.
The bad news is: it may take a bit of terminal work/plist editing to get the bootloader pointed back at your windows partition....

I doubt there is anything in the boot.plist or in extra that can stop xp from booting. I would check instead if xp's bootloader files and bootsector are in good shape.
