fdisk: Resource Busy error, MBR, Tiger
« on: September 19, 2009, 07:42:27 PM »
I'm trying to do the first step in putting Chameleon onto the MBR, and I get the fdisk: Resource Busy Error

Imac G3 700mhz, 512mb ram, 30gb hard disk
OS X - Tiger 10.4.11
target: 10gb external hard disk via firewire

1) Erased the disk and made it Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).
2) Restored the Snow Leopard DVD image to the disk
3) Through Terminal, diskutiilty, found out disk was disk1
4) changed to the Chameleon i386 directory
5) entered command: sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1
6) typed in the password

got the error: "fdisk /dev/rdisk1: Resource busy"

Thanks in advance for your help.

Since my Intel PC is old and can't boot to USB, I thought I'd try the steps to put Chameleon and the Snow Leopard DVD onto an old 10 GB IDE drive mounted in a USB external disk enclosure. So far, I've been able to properly format and partition the drive and restored Snow Leopard image to the external hard drive. I am getting the same "Resource busy" error when I got to step 5 in iakot's post.

Imac G4 15" 800 mhz, 256MB RAM, 40 GB Hard disk
OS X - Tiger 10.4.11
target: 10GB external hard disk via USB (also tried 8GB USB memory stick)

diskutil reports that my drive is also disk1, like iakot's, and I've made sure I'm executing "sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1".

Hi iakot and haidangwa, Welcome to the forums :)

I think your issue can be solved by umounting your target drive first.
