[Theme] Blackosx_Big_Screen_MkII
« on: October 04, 2009, 12:50:57 AM »
I have put together everything I think that's needed for this theme. I have supplied a few variations of high resolution graphics and sizes in this package and a Read Me to help with resizing it to fit hopefully most, if not all, resolutions. Everything is there for you to resize it to suit your needs.

Thanks to rzooff for his comments and Windows04 & iRipper for responding to my preview.

ps. If I have missed something in the package then please forgive me as it's late and I am tired.

If you need it resized and can't do it then I suggest you LEARN. If you have managed to build a hackintosh and learn about DSDT, kexts, plists & bootloaders then surely it should be easy to resize a few graphic files and edit a theme.plist (or catch me in a very helpful mood ::))

Please understand, like everyone else who devotes their spare time here, I am very busy and have a life outside of osx86.

That said, I hope you all enjoy my work it you decide to try it. :)

EDIT: I have attached a folder containing a thumb.png and a revised theme.plist to use this theme with Sonotone's new Lizard app.

Note for others: iRipper posted his request before I added the bold statement in the first post.

Hi iRipper, As you responded to my preview and you did ask me then, I will make an exception ;)  (Plus you caught me in a helpful mood)

Note: I haven't changed the theme.plist. So you will have to amend the resolution and also any adjustments as the original Read Me.

Hi blackosx,

I really love the theme (really, good job ;)) but i can't get it right on my display.

I use a 1920x1080 display, so in the backgrounds folder i choose 1920x1080 (16:9) and for the devices i choose the perspective folder and then the devices in the 1920px folder (i don't modify anything).

Then i add them to the common folder, I modify the theme.plist:
1)setting the max_devices to 4 and the iconspacing to 12
2) Setting screen height to 1920/screen width to 1080, same with boot height/width.
Then i set the theme but when i reboot, i get this:

http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/1503/pa060012.jpg

What am i doing wrong?

PS: in Mac OS X i need the overscan option to get a full screen image on my display, maybe that's the problem?

Hi Windows04 - Thanks for the detailed explanation and the screen shots.
Well done for trying. I think the problem is the height of the perspective devices as the reflections make them tall. Try reducing them further as they are falling off the bottom of the screen and the fonts can't be rendered properly hence the artifacts you see.

You can also try positioning the devices higher on the screen to raise them up. To do this you need to edit the <key>devices_pos_y</key> string. Try changing it either +/- (I can't remember which way it needs to go).

See my screenshot above for reference.

Hi Blackosx ;),

These instructions really got me further, but we're not there yet ;).

As you can see for yourself, the images in the selection screen are fine, but the background is stretched (was already a problem) so the chameleon logo is not in the middle and the right side of the background is kinda "chopped off".

So do you have a solution for the stretched background :s?

Oh yeah.. are all your themes stretched?
At that device selection screen, press down arrow and select the video options mode and see if your resolution of 1920x1080 is actually listed. If not, then Chameleon is having trouble detecting your display at that resolution. Do you have it connected via VGA-DVI? or maybe try swapping connections?

Ah ok, thanks Blackosx ;).

I checked the list and you were right, 1920x1080 wasn't there... So i changed the background to 1400x1050 (a resolution that was on the list) and now everything is working perfectly.

Weird that it doesn't recognize it... I have a HD Radeon 4870 (same as in mac pro) and i don't use a DVI-VGA adapter (my display can connect with DVI) and Mac OS X does recognise the 1920x1080 resolution... and i tried swapping connections but doesn't do anything either...

Do you know how to let it recognize that resolution?

The reason I asked about VGA-DVI is because I used to have my display connected via VGA using a DVI-VGA adaptor from the video card. With this setup Chameleon couldn't detect my displays native 1680x1050 resolution. I fixed it by connecting DVI-DVI.

As for yours not being recognised could be something to do with the Radeon 4870 but I don't know - you have exhausted my knowledge on that. Hopefully somebody else will be able to help you with this? If you find out, can you please report back so others can seek a fix? Thanks

Hi Blackosx ;),

With the new imacs, i had an idea for this theme. Could you replace the black borders of the screens in this theme with an imac screen? It will give the theme a mac like feel and i think it would be cool ;).
