It would be nice if the boot screen that comes up with the default partition/hard drive and countdown timer also showed the other partitions/hard drives as well.

Makes no sense to me, Crabhunter :P
-
I think it would be more obvious to the rest of my family what choices they have when they boot the computer.
Mike
-
Chameleon can already do that, please read the documentation.
-
I'll have to read it again, I found how to force it to the choices screen but then you loose the countdown.
Mike
-
You just need to press any key while in countdown to enter the menu and see all choices.
-
as I said in my original post, I would like to see the choices displayed as the timer is counting down.
Not one or the other.
I would like my cake and be able to eat it as well ;)

I misread you before.
AFAIK what you want is not possible, you can only have the countdown bar on the screen that shows the "default partition".
You can use Instant Menu=y to go straight to the graphical device selector. But Instant Menu=y will override the timeout setting..so you'll have to manually select which partition to boot.
Looks like you can have your cake, but someone else will be eating it for now. :o
/EDIT
Oh damn, I AM going crazy, we're in the feature requests sub-forum. lol

yeah, i got it, but still doesn't make sense to me. What's the point? The usefulness?

Mike
The best you can do for them is have no Timeout at all, go straight to menu.. i think ;)

ha, ha, you're mad, you're losing it.
calm down and have a stiff drink.
All this stuff does your head in.
Mike
-
?? Are you talking to me Crabhunter?
-
Yes, but to the reply before last.It was meant in good humor, sometimes things don't come across right on the net.
Cheers.

Reading my posts again, i can't make a connection...
yeah probably i'm loosing it, because i can't understand why this

should cause that answer.
Think i already lost enough time here...
Stay safe.

I believe he was referring to this:

Sorry Azimutz, yes I was. It's me going mad, my head is spinning with this at the moment.

Ok Crabhunter... i felt that there was some misunderstanding here, but i'm in a low patience phase lately and... well, sorry for that too. I need a vacation from the scene, before i loose it for good! :P
Anyway, going to the point... you made a request and i gave my opinion. That's all i can do...
Well talk later here (http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,1694.0.html) ;)

I agree with this original request. First of all because most of the gorgeous themes don't really make sense unless there are more than 1 choice to make - and secondly because a "default" partition should have a timeout. Imagine you're working remotely on your machine and need to reboot it - now you can't use instant menu or your machine will not complete the reboot without manual interaction. I see no reason why these options have to purposefully be kept as mutually exclusive.
-
It has already been established in this thread that the default partition has a timeout, unless you have set Instant menu=y.
Your remote control argument does not apply to this situation because even if it was showing all your drives with a timeout under the default drive, you still would not be able to control Chameleon remotely.
If you're working on your Hackintosh remotely, you can edit your org.Chameleon.boot.plist before rebooting if you want it to boot another partition on next reboot.
If you want to switch between Windows and OS X remotely, you must have Chameleon installed on a partition that is accessible from Windows so that you can modify the boot.plist from there when you want to boot OS X. A script or small app could be handy for this purpose, most likely it already exists out there somewhere.

Don't understand what is meant by the remote control but like Crabhunter, I too would like to see ALL my partitions (unless actively hidden) AND to have a countdown before it boots the default partition.
It strikes me as rather strange that it has to be one or the other and not able to be both!!

I was replying to this:
Imagine you're working remotely on your machine and need to reboot it - now you can't use instant menu or your machine will not complete the reboot without manual interaction.
If you're working remotely on your machine you will not be able to do anything until the operating system is done booting. You will not be able to control Chameleon remotely. So if you're logged in remotely, it doesn't matter how many partitions are visible during the countdown because you won't be able to see them anyway.
