Title: Theme Location
Post by: Vaden on August 02, 2009, 09:18:50 AM
I've googled, and looked at a few posts here. Can't find it.
From what i gathered its /Extra

But there are no theme files there at all.
Chameleon 2 installed with iATKOS v7.

I just want to change my main logo on boot up. You know when it shows the logo in the middle of the screen (gray background), and then it has the loading circle like image under that. After that the screen goes blue, then dock/menubar/desktop appear.

Anyhow, i've changed the logo using an app that changes the logo for you. and switched to the default one(plain dark gray apple) I just don't think the glossy one fits with it. Doesn't look right to me. And doing that did nothing. So i was thinking that maybe chameleon was causing it not to change, that it's using the logo that chameleon uses. I don't know.

Any help would be great. Sorry, i talk alot O_O.

For that, you shouldn't be asking for support here, so please, do so in the relevant (wherever you got it from) place.

To be fair, he's not asking for support on that.

I too would like info on the Chameleon theme files and where they are located.

I agree with Imacken... Anyway, to answer you question, themes should be under /Extra/Themes/. If  this Themes folder doesnt exist, I would be surprised if you had a GUI at all? (or maybe on is coded straight into cham). Anyway each theme should have its own folder, and the theme you want should be specified in boot.apple.com.plist (if you don't know how to do this, use search). To be completely sure, for example if you go to /Extra/Themes/Any Theme/, you should see all the theme files directly inside.

It's not as simple as that.
On my desktop install, there was no Extra/Themes folder.  There was no boot.plist file either.
This is where some of the confusion lies.  Some people just don't have these files/folders but Chameleon GUI works OK.
There are no obvious hints to create a Themes file or that Chameleon uses a different boot.plist file to the default one, so it's perfectly understandable that people are confused.

BTW, to save people searching endlessly for info, if you want to change themes, you just do 2 simple things
1) put your new theme in a subfolder of Extras/Themes
2) edit the com.apple.boot.plist file in EXTRAS folder putting in the entries
    <key>Theme</key>
    <string>THEME_FOLDER_NAME</string>
If you don't have a boot.plist file in Extras (like I didn't) then copy the system one into Extras and edit it.

Yes, the released versions has been built with the "make embedtheme" option, so the "Default" theme files are embedded in the boot/cdboot binary.

They thanks everyone.
Yea my theme folder isn't there.
So it must be embedded like Zef said.

I'll just find a theme and put that there, and build off that.
Thanks. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't somewhere else.

Or if it wasn't suppose to be there.
Thanks!
