Title: General question about boot loaders
Post by: majortom on July 08, 2009, 03:26:25 PM
I apologize if my question is aout of topic because I need an answer on a general question which is marginally related to Chameleon but I need some help.
I'd like to have a triple boot machine, with the original Windows XP, Ubuntu and OSX. I actually know how to manage the matter with rEfit on Apple's machines but I don't know how on a generic PC netbook.
Of course, I'm going to create 3 partitions and I absolutely need to place Windows on the first partition as (its restore CD works only in this way, without asking what partition I'd like to place it on). Therefore I'm going to install OS X and Ubuntu where I better prefer.
The question is: where should the boot loader be placed? Can I place Chameleon on the second partition where OS X will reside or should I nned to place it on the Windows partition. I'll try to explain myself in a better way: must the boot loader reside on the OS on the 1st partition and should I then modify the boot.ini Windows file in order to have a triple boot machine or can I install Chameleon on the second (OS X) partition (preferred option)?
I hope the question is clear and the provided informations are enough.
Thaks in advance

Install it on your OS X partition, and leave it as the last, when installing Ubunutu make sure grub is installed on its partition (/dev/sdaX not /dev/sda).

If you install Chameleon manually make sure to use the provided (modified) fdisk for boot0.

Install it on your OS X partition, and leave it as the last, (...)

Thank you very much for your reply, but... what shoul I leave at last: the Chameleon Installation or the Mac OS X volume?
