[SOLVED] How to boot with 1024x600 on a netbook?
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:10:00 PM »
I feel like such a noob. Well, I am in this regard.

I try to do a vanilla OS X install on a Netbook with a 1024x600 screen.

I installed Chameleon 2.0 RC1 on a USB stick. When I'd then try to boot the Instal DVD, the OS X Installer screen shows up with 1024x768, making parts of it invisible on the small Netbook screen. This effect has been described 100s of times on the net already.

So I thought I could simply edit the Boot.plist like this:

   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>"Graphics Mode"="1024x600x32@60"</string>

But then the boot soon results in a restart of the loader.

And when I instead use:

   <string>"Graphics Mode"="1024x600"</string>

Then the theme picture adjusts itself, but the actually used screen size remains 1024x768.

Where/how can I set the screen size permanently?

Uh, actually, this works:

   <key>Kernel Flags</key>
   <string>"Graphics Mode"="1024x600x32"</string>

So the thing crashed because I added the optional refresh parameter.

I somehow missed this question, I gotta get the faq guides ready, the refresh param part has been bugging people for a long time (it's also answered here in a few threads)

For clarity's shake, chameleon-wise all options/params that you want to keep permanent  go to your /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist
Stop bitching, start coding or documenting or both..
