Strange Issue on some Gigabyte Motherboards
« on: September 07, 2009, 10:12:13 PM »
Hey Chameleon Crew!

First of all, just wanted to say a massive thanks for everything done so far. Chameleon is awesome!
I just wanted to notify you of this issue I am experiencing which could be a bug

Basically I've burnt a copy of cdboot and Preboot.dmg onto a CD (Specifically this one: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184338, it uses an old revision (655) but I've also tried with the cdboot in RC3) and once I put the disk in it boots but then gets stuck on this:

Code: [Select]
cdboot: loading................
cdboot: done

Now this happens on the stock CDBoot compiled by the Chameleon Crew distributed on the binary packages for RC3. So I decided to download the sources and compile it myself. My compiled version just reboots after this output (It's real quick so can't see anything past this)

Code: [Select]
cdboot: loading..............
So basically here is the skinny version:
Chameleon RC3 - Compiled by Chameleon Team: Stuck at cdboot: done
Chameleon RC3 - Compiled by Me: Reboot Loop
Chameleon r655 - Rebooting Loop

Here is my hardware if it helps:
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3P
Proc: Intel C2D E6550
HDD: 2 x WD 500GB

Hope this helps

Right I did some more testing on this issue.

I have two computers:
Computer 1: Gigabyte P35 DS3P, Intel C2D E6550, 2 x 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM
Computer 2: Asus P5VDC-X, Intel P4, 160 GB HDD and 512MB RAM

Chameleon RC3 CDBOOT Compiled by Chameleon Crew (From Binary Packages)
Computer 1: Gets stuck on cdboot: done
Computer 2: Boots the GUI like normal

Chameleon RC3 CDBOOT Compiled by me (Using just make)
Computer 1: Computer Reboots instantly after loading CDBOOT
Computer 2: Boots a text based selector

Chameleon r655 CDBOOT
Computer 1: Computer Reboots instantly after loading CDBOOT
Computer 2: Boots the GUI like normal

Some other people have also been having the same issue with some Gigabyte boards as seen in these posts

The issue doesn't span all Gigabyte boards as some have been having success with getting it to boot. I hope this information helps.

I had this problem and the cause was my IDE dvd-drive, i got a Pata 2 Sata converted and now its fine.

I do get quite a few E-bios error messages before it boots to GUI tho but it still works  ;)

Well my DVD drive and my 2 hard drives are SATA drives so I don't that is the issue. Also I tried chameleon rc2 and that boots just fine which is even more strange
